Oil Cleansing Method for Naturally Perfect Skin

Cleansing your skin with oil is one of, if not the most, effective steps that you can change in your skincare routine – it’s the secret to balanced healthy skin.

Whether you have dry, sensitive, aging or even skin prone acne & breakouts – the oil cleansing method with help to dramatically improve the stability, health and appearance of your skin.

How it Works

The theory is pretty simple. It is based on the fact that oil dissolves oil. One of the most basic principles of chemistry is that “like dissolves like.” The best way to dissolve a non-polar solvent like sebum/oil, is by using another non-polar solvent similar in composition i.e., other oils. Oil cleansing works by using certain natural oils to cleanse the skin and naturally balance the skin’s natural oils. This is the most natural, organic way to care for your skin.

Oil cleansers are gentle enough for all skin types and, because they use skin-compatible oils, won’t cause clogged pores or excessive oiliness. When done properly and consistently, the oil cleansing method can clear the skin from issues like oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, blackheads, whiteheads and other problems caused by mild to moderate acne–while leaving your skin healthy, balanced and properly moisturized.

The oil cleansing method uses fresh, plant-based nutritive oils to attract, bond with, and remove the dirt and oil from your skin and pores without stripping your skin's beneficial moisture.

If you haven’t oil cleansed before – the process is simple – but it does work a little differently to what you might be used to with a traditional cleanser where you just foam and rinse away.

Why just clean when you can feed your skin with wholesome, natural products with vital botanical ingredients?

How to do the Oil Cleansing Method

  • Cleansing oils work best as your night time cleanser, since they provide the skin with potent nourishment and prep it for the rest of your overnight skin repair routine.
  • You’ll need a soft washcloth, your oil cleanser, and hot running water.
  • Apply a pump or two of your cleansing oil onto your palms and rub your hands together to warm the oil and smooth it over your dry face. The oils need to be applied on dry skin in order to work their magic. These "good" oils bind to surface impurities, pulling them off of the skin to be rinsed away later on.
  • In order to create that binding action, you need to massage the product in thoroughly; massage for at least a minute (two minutes is better) or until you are sure that the oil has saturated your skin. This will ensure the oil has a chance to sink in and grab on to the dirt, oil, and makeup covering the skin’s surface. This will also remove make-up very effectively, so there is no need to remove make-up first. Massaging also has the added benefit of stimulating your skin’s circulation to up your natural radiance and helping to drain excess fluid that can make your face look puffy.
  • As you’re massaging, take this time to relax and release some of the stress from the day. Sit down, breathe deeply, and take your time. Give the oil enough time to work on dissolving the impurities in your pores and give yourself enough time to unwind. You can even leave the oil on the skin for up to 10 minutes to really deep clean pores.
  • Rinse wash cloth in hot water. You want the water to be warm enough to soften your pores and remove the oil.
  • Hold the washcloth to cover your face. Allow it to stay until it cools. You will feel your pores softening and releasing the impurities. Wipe the oil gently away and rinse the washcloth well in hot, running water. Hold the washcloth to your face again, allowing it to cool. Wipe gently, rinse thoroughly, and repeat two or three more times. Avoid any temptation to scrub, as you’ll find it’s completely unnecessary and your skin will be soft, smooth, and free of flakes without the additional manual exfoliation and irritation that will result. Impurities, dead skin cells, and bacteria will be gently swept away.
  • Some consider oil cleanser to be a pre-cleanse to remove makeup, and follow it with another sudsy cleanser to remove the extra oil which is left on the skin. Consider this step as a matter of personal preference influenced by skin type.
